I had a kids bow as a young teenager but never took it up as a sport, 35 years later at a re-enactment weekend, I had a go at shooting a longbow and found I still had a liking for it, so in June 08 I passed my beginners course and took up archery more seriously. I purchased a recurve setup and started shooting as often as I could.
Taking part in competitions as a beginner has proved to be great fun and I have made lots of new friends. I bought my longbow so I could join in with the more Medieval side of archery and re-enactment shoots.

My Name is Karen Hanson and I am now the Silver Arrow Archers club Secretary, about two and a half years ago after tagging along to competitions with my husband, I was convinced to try archery for myself, I found to my surprise that this was a sport I enjoyed, I have gained some awards on the way and made many good friends.
During the day I am an assistant caretaker at a local secondary school and at the end of the day I have found archery to be a good way to relax.

I started archery in 2010 (doing the beginners course at Silver Arrows Archery) with my son, as a way of getting him off his computer and out of the house. I'm slowly getting more accurate, but won't be taking any club records for a while yet.
